In order for smartphone users to get their hands on the latest version (6.1) of Windows Mobile, they have to not only wait for Microsoft’s official announcement, they also have to wait for the manufacturers to get their stuff in order and release firmware updates. In addition to this, there are no guarantees that WinMo upgrades will be released on all devices.
The Samsung BlackJack for instance is not a new device. In the BlackJack II, Samsung already have a successor in place. Samsung may decide not to put out any updates for the older BlackJack. That’s not saying that it will happen, but it is something that Samsung can consider.
It seems that the community though never rests. BlackJack hackers have come out with their very own Windows Mobile 6.1 firmware update. Although the update is still in beta, the core components of the OS are loaded and actually work. As there are many active testers out there we are quite certain that a final version will see the light of day soon.
