verizon wins fcc auction

Verizon Wireless placed a number of winning bids on so-called ‘open’ portions of wireless spectrum recently auctioned by the Federal Communications Commission, following months of speculation that Google Inc. may vie for the licences, according to data posted Thursday by the FCC. Verizon placed winning bids on a number of licenses in the “C block,” which had had rules placed on it by the FCC mandating that the spectrum be open to devices and applications not vetted and sold by the spectrum’s owner. Google had pressed the FCC for the attachment of the rules, stirring speculation that it may try to acquire the spectrum for itself. After winning the FCC wireless spectrum auction Verizon Wireless  said that the spectrum depth it needed to grow its business and data revenues in the recent Federal Communication Commission auction.
