Verizon Business, Akamai Strengthen Official Web Site for Global Fans of Hong Kong 2009 East Asian GamesVerizon Business and Akamai Technologies have boosted the security and performance of the official Web site for the 5th Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games that are taking place in Hong Kong Dec. 5-13. Visitors to the Web site will now have access to on-demand downloads, in near-real time, of an array of interactive content such as game results, highlighted photos and schedules. Thanks to the Verizon and Akamai solution, download speeds are twice as fast. 

The East Asian Games, held every four years, is a major event on the Asian sporting scene.  At this year’s event some 2,300 elite athletes are competing for 262 gold medals in 22 sports and 1,700 competitive events.

Verizon Business was selected by 2009 East Asian Games (Hong Kong) Limited (EAG Co.) to enhance the organization’s official Web site. Verizon’s integrated solution combines Akamai’s Dynamic Site Acceleration with Verizon’s full project-management and penetration-testing support.

Verizon Business saw that EAG Co. needed a robust, high performance, secure Web site that could deliver the news its global fans need, when they need it – and in a broad variety of formats. Participating in this year’s games are China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Japan, Korea, China Macau, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei, Guam and China Hong Kong.
