Ralph de la Vega, AT&T’s CEO, spent most of AT&T’s CTIA press conference talking about their new project with Microsoft, which will see AT&T stores all across the US decked with surface table computers. Accompanied by Robbie Bach from Microsoft, the pair spoke about the improvements that surface technology could bring to customer experience and other benefits that AT&T will receive.

The point of this post is not that though. The other part or Mr. de la Vega’s presentation was focused on 3G and 4G technologies. At one point, de la Vega mentioned that all of AT&T’s smartphones will 3G within “months”. Hold on a second – AT&T carries the Palm Centro and the Apple iPhone as well. Could this be a hint at what is to come very soon. CEOs are coached very well on how to speak to the press and there is very little chance that “months” was a slip. Nothing is certain yet for the moment so watch this space.
