YouTube Ups Upload Time to 15 Minutes, Holds Contest to Celebrate
Youtube complied to the top request from its users on July 29th, increasing their maximum upload time from 10 minutes to 15 minutes. In doing this, the Google owned website is helping thousands of amateur film makers with their careers. With the 5 extra minutes of upload time, wanna be film makers have more room to experiment with the visual medium, and allows for more films from their collection to be uploaded and viewed by friends and professionals the world over.
Youtube attributes this increased time to an improvement in their Content ID system, which is able to recognize copyright protected material. To celebrate this, Youtube is holding a 15 minutes of fame contest. On their blog, Joshua Siegel, product manager of upload and video management wrote, “”Imagine that this video is all the world will ever know about you: what would you want to communicate? What will be the enduring stamp you’ve left on us all?” Usersneed to upload their videos and tag with “yt15minutes” by August 4th to be considered. The selected few will be featured on the Youtube homepage.
Users who have previously tried to upload videos more than 10 minutes (but less than 15) need to delete the videos from their My Videos section and re-upload.
