Vodafone have revealed that they have agreed to acquire 100% of Denmark based ZYB for 31.5 million Euros. ZYB is a social network and online management tool that lets mobile phone users back-up and share their calendar information and phone contacts online.

Under the terms of the deal, ZYB will remain based in Denmark and upon acquisition will be incorporated in to the Internet Services Division at Vodafone.

This is more evidence to show that Vodafone doesn’t see itself as a dumb pipe but that it is looking to acquire or partner with service providers to give their subscribers what they think is ideal for them. Acquiring ZYB will help improve the range of communications services that Vodafone can provide to their users. What remains to be seen is whether Vodafone’s approach is successful in the long run.
