A new service called TipSoft lets users who witness a crime, seamlessly aid the police by sending anonymous tips through SMS, without revealing their identities to the authorities.

Tipsters will send a message to the central number that removes the tipster’s identifying data and forwards it to police. The anonymity works both ways, so if the cops want to ask for more information they can only do that by using the service in reverse.

The service is already being used by Canadian CrimesStoppers and the company plans to offer the service in America later in 2008 and in the UK soon thereafter.
