It was announced by Truphone that they were in the process of acquiring SIM4travel’s assets that would include infrastructure, customer base, distribution and staff in Portugal and London, so that they may complete its “GSM core network” and offer customers options beyond low-cost WiFi calls only. The following is a quote: ‘The purchase means that Truphone will acquire both SIM4travel’s travel SIM capability and its Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE) platform. Integration of SIM4travel’s assets into Truphone’s own portfolio will begin immediately and take several months to complete.’ In essence, that means that Truphone is talking preparations to launch a single, worldwide, Truphone SIM which would allow users to make cheap phone calls even when they’re not in WiFi hotspots. No official release date is available as of yet.Source
