Out of 43 billion text messages sent for the New Year, 23 billion were sent via Acision’s systems

Furthermore, Acision said that global SMS traffic over the 2007/2008 New Year period increased by 30% compared to the same period last year. That’s putting those numbers into perspective.
As was predicted, the growth was particularly strong in India, where alone people sent text messages in excess of one billion. However, the Philippines retained its title as the SMS capital of the world where 50 million strong subscribers sent a total of 1.39 billion text messages! All of a sudden, that “200 SMS per day girl” article doesn’t sound that strange!
