Fido is to bring Wi-Fi cellphone calling to Canada on April 2nd

Canadian cell provider Fido is set to follow in the steps of T-Mobile USA and launch a Wi-Fi calling service that will be less expensive than traditional service, a leak on HowardForums says. Fido UNO will use the same Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology as T-Mobile’s HotSpot@Home to immediately switch from GSM cellular to Internet calling when connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot. Fido UNO enables you to make unlimited local calls through a wireless (WiFi) internet connection. You must have a Fido UNO enabled handset, two are launching - information is below. It will work on both the GSM & WiFi network (when available).

AS far as the launch date goes, the soft launch will be on the April 2nd and the commercial launch will be on May 6th. Your Fido UNO Options & Pricing are : $15 for unlimited local calling from home and $20 for unlimited local and Canadian long-distance calling from home. Also When making long-distance or international calls from home with the Fido UNO service, customers subscribing to the $15 option will be charged as per usual Fido rates. And $20 option subscribers will benefit from reduced long-distance rates which is $0.10/per minute for US long distance calls (billed by the second, 30 second minimum) and up to 70% off on International long-distance (same rates as with the $4 International long-distance calls options)

And for the Fido UNO enable Handsets your options are somewhat limited. Fido will release Nokia 6301 - (Launch: April 2) $100 for  2-Years contract and $50 for 3-Years contract  Also on the Motorola Z6W - (Launch: End of May) $150 for 2  years contract and $100 for 3 years contract.
