Ericsson chief executive’s predictions

Carl-Henric Svanberg, the Chief Executive of Ericsson, has said that he expects the number of mobile subscriptions to reach 6.5 billion by 2013. He has also said that he expects internet broadband usage to reach 2.5 billion, of which two-thirds will be “mobile broadband”.
There is obviously a thread between his predictions and his company. All that additional capacity that will be needed on mobile networks could be provided by Ericsson. With that in mind, Svanberg mentioned that Ericsson will be spending about US$25 billion over the next five years on research and development – we assume to help create the next-gen solutions required to deliver both e the OoS and the capacity that users and networks will clamor for.
