Echostar had a very good run in the FCC spectrum auctions in America held a short while back. This prompted many to suggest that the Satellite Pay-TV operator was planning to step onto the mobile market. As some of you may also know, Echostar also recently acquired SlingMedia, adding credence to the speculation.

The speculation now seems to be correct as Echostar have just unveiled a partnership with Alcatel-Lucent to test DVB-SH (SAT variant of DVB-H) in America. On an interesting note, analysts don’t consider this to be a good move, citing the roll-out costs of the service in the face of existing rivals.

We will keep you posted on Echostar’s next moves as it seems that there may be a new player on the broadcast mobile TV market soon.
