While LTE is still a number of years away, it would seem that the wait for LTE will be made easier by new developments in HSPA-based mobile broadband solutions. Nokia Siemens networks has shown off their new I-HSPA (Internet High Speed Packet Access) in Austria and have demonstrated the technology’s 10.1 Mbps data transfer rate.
The remarkable data speeds were attained by making use of a “flat-network architecture” where the HSPA network base stations are directly connected to the internet. As a result of this users experience less latency. The flat network also happens to facilitate a smooth switch to LTE when it finally goes live.
