It started with a few hundred complaints about att billing practice with third party charges for ringotones, wallpapers etc at the Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum’s office. Later in investigating the issue, it was found that AT&T (ATT) had received thousands of similar complaints. TAnd tt was it for att. Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum ruled out that att needs to pay back thousands of Florida consumers who were billed for third-party services such as ringtones and text messaging that were advertised as free. This court ruling could result in refunds of more than $10 million in all, depending on how many consumers seek compensation. As of now , att will also pay the state $2.5 million and contribute $500,000 toward consumer education on safe Internet use under the agreement. Too bad to att, hopefully they will really wake up and will better police its contracts with third parties to go after the actual companies selling the ringtones and other content.
