It was fun thinking that Mr. Mossberg knew of Apple’s launch plans for the 3G iPhone but the experienced gadget reviewer has now done a 180 on his remark on the 3G iPhone’s launch in 60 days time.
Walt Mossberg now says that he does not know more about the 3G iPhone’s launch than any of us do and that his earlier remarks had been blown out of proportion. He says that his remark was made based on the rampant speculation on the net that the new iPhone will hit the market in June or July.
The remark was made as an aside about data networks and Mr. Mossberg was taken aback by the level of attention that websites gave to it. Walt Mossberg mentions, “If I knew when this date was, why would I announce it in the middle of a sentence at the Finnish embassy, rather than report it in the Wall Street Journal?”
