There is going to be competition in the Italian iPhone market this year. Vodafone are set to offer the 3G iPhone to Italy as one of the ten countries that they will launch the phone in. however, Vodafone won’t be alone as the smaller Italian carrier Telecom Italia Movil (TIM) plan to offer their own version of an Italian iPhone as well.
TIM have unveiled that it “has signed a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Italy later this year.” Their announcement did not include details of whether TIM’s iPhone will be the first generation iPhone or the new iPhone that can support 3G network data speeds. Earlier speculation had suggested that TIM were planning to launch the 3G iPhone without a contract or network-lock. We wonder if Apple will actually let TIM release an unlocked 3G iPhone next to Vodafone’s device. We will just have to wait and see.
