Speculation has been rife, to say the least, but now Gizmodo has seemingly confirmed the launch of the 3G iPhone on June 9th during the keynote presentation at Apple’s WWDC conference. They cite a source who is, “very, very close to the 3G iPhone launch”. According to the report apple will be unveiling the next-gen iPhone during the keynote speech, with, we assume, Steve Jobs doing the honors of unveiling the new device.
Also, since Spain will get the 3G iPhone on June 18, to coincide with the grand opening of the Telefonica megastore in Madrid, it is probably a safe bet to say that the 3G iPhone will be available in America by then.
Additionally, it seems that the new iPhone will also bring with it a new paradigm for iPhone-pricing. The days of fixed-price iPhones will be over. Apple will take on a more traditional subsidized pricing schedule for the 3G iPhone - for at least some markets. This means that some carriers will be able to offer subsidies and discounts on the iPhone in exchange for a contract-commitment from the subscriber.
June 9th can’t seem to come soon enough….
