Apple's New iPhone SDK Lifts VoIP Over 3G Restriction

Apple has released a software development kit for the iPhone. iPhone OS 3.2 SDK will let developers adopt their existing iPhone applications for the iPad. It also removes the restriction Apple had placed preventing applications such as Skype from placing VoIP calls over 3G networks. AT&T has already relented on this point, but now applications can use AT&T’s data network to make voice calls using VoIP technology.

One application that uses VoIP for phone calls, called iCall, is already available in the iPhone Apps Store.
